Kindergarten Round-Up

The annual Kindergarten Round-Up for 2013-14 kindergarten students will be March 19 - 22, 2013 at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, adjacent to Moon Area's secondary schools campus.

Registration for each building will be done on assigned days according to where your child will attend classes. 

Round-Up dates for the specific buildings are as follows:

Tuesday, March 19 – Bon Meade Elementary

Wednesday, March 20 – Bon Meade and McCormick Elementary

Thursday, March 21 – Brooks Elementary

Friday, March 22 – Allard and Hyde Elementary

The event allows parents to meet kindergarten teachers and staff while registering their children for kindergarten. Children who have attended private kindergarten or kindergarten in another district are also welcome to attend Round-Up to register for first grade.

During this event, we will check the children's hearing, speech and vision. A basic assessment will be administered by the Round-Up team. This tool will provide information about your child's development. Parents will be asked to complete necessary forms while their child is being assessed. Your child will be taken through the screening process by a Round-Up helper. Certified district personnel will administer the screenings and assessments.

To most accurately assess the children, parents are not permitted in the screening areas. There will be no exceptions. It is advised that parents explain to their children that they must go to the screening process alone. Children who are unable to separate from parents will not be screened. Parents will receive the information from the screenings several weeks after Round-Up concludes.

Children must be five years of age on or before September 30 for entry into kindergarten for the school year. Children must be six years of age on or before September 30 to enter first grade for the school year.

Registration

Call the Registrar's Office at 412-264-9440 (Menu #8, Extension:1132) to schedule a mandatory appointment between 2/11/13 and 3/10/13. Parents will receive a written confirmation of their appointment. It is asked that parents adhere to the specific time of the appointment to ensure that the children receive the special attention they deserve during Round-Up.

Requirements

  • Children must be five years of age on or before September 30 to be eligible for entry into Kindergarten.
  • Children must be six years of age on or before September 30 to be eligible for entry into first grade.
  • The following information must be provided at the time of registration: immunization records, birth certificate, parents' proof of residency and social security number (optional). View Immunization Requirements.
  • If you are planning to enroll your child in a private or parochial school, please contact the Registrar's office at (412) 264-9440 ext. 1132. The information regarding private/parochial students is vital in maintaining the Moon Area School District census of school-aged children.
