Layne Baggett was 100 Meter Hurdles PIAA State Champion with a new school record time of 14.27 seconds.The Moon Area High School Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the 13th Annual Arts in Education Day at the Capital Building in Harrisburg on May 7.Symphonic Band received Superior ratings at the PMEA Large Ensemble Adjudication for the second year.Moon Area High School Senior Brian Walsh, was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year for 2008.Moon Area swimmers competed at the PIAA Swimming State Championships held at Bucknell University under the direction of coach Jamie Morton. Alexis Berdine, Selina Breiner, Zina Grogg and Brittany Pales set a Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay district record race of 1:50.46 and placed 12th in state. Zina Grogg swam an All American consideration with district record time of 57.16 in a fifth-place finish in the Girls 100 Butterfly 5th.Moon Area Gymnastics won 2008 WPIAL and PIAA State Champion titles under Head Coach Amy Caprino.Moon Area High School has been awarded the Globe award by the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association for the first time. The PSMLA Exemplary Program (PEP) is open to all state high schools. Schools are required to submit evidence to document that they meet the rigorous program criteria established by PSMLA.Moon Area boys and girls swimmers first place championship at the recent MAC meet. This is the boys fourth consecutive and the seventeenth they have won under the direction of Jamie Morton. This is the first girls win since 2004 and the fourteenth under the direction of Jamie Morton.Moon Area High School Instrumental Music Department traveled to Orlando, Fla., to perform in the Walt Disney World, Magic Music Days.Bon Meade Elementary Fifth Grade Singing Tigers Selected to Perform at All-State Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Conference.
