Why MASD?
At Moon Area School District, academic excellence is our priority. MASD strives to provide an educational environment offering opportunities for all students to reach their full potential, while preparing them for a future in a global society.
Strong Academics
Consistently, Moon Area students perform above state and national averages on standardized testing. In 2008-09 school year, each school exceeded the national No Child Left Behind legislation benchmarks topping Adequate Yearly Progress targets.
Technology Leader
Moon Area remains committed to providing the latest state-of-the-art technology in all seven district buildings. Our technology program, places the latest desktop and laptop computers, interactive whiteboards and other electronics in a majority of district classrooms. In the 2009-10 school year, 59 learner response systems along with LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards will be added to our elementary and middle schools. The systems gauge student comprehension in real-time, a vital education tool.
A total of 32 high school classrooms are equipped with laptop computers for every student and more than half of all high school teachers teach lessons with interactive whiteboards and LCD projectors. Approximately 21 learner response systems also will be used by high school educators. Each computer is part of a districtwide technology refresh effort guaranteeing no student or staff member uses outdated equipment.
Diverse Activities
MASD recognizes that student interaction in activities during and after-school hours teaches valuable lessons not available in any classroom. The district offers a wide variety of academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular options in musical, dramatic and athletic endeavors at elementary, middle school and high school levels.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The district plans to improve our offerings with a multi-million dollar secondary schools construction and renovation project through 2012. A new, state-of-the-art high school is set to open in winter 2010, while the former high school transforms into the district’s new middle school in summer 2012. After construction, the nearly 30-acre campus will showcase new athletic fields and courts, modern auditoriums and unmatched amenities for students, staff and community members.
