MAMS Student Ties for First in Regional Math Competition, Advances to International Tournament

Math League

Moon Area Middle School eighth grader, Chancharik Mitra, tied for first in the regional 2016-2017 Math League Competition held in late February. Mitra’s performance also ranked him within the top 30 in Pennsylvania in the eighth grade competition.

Mitra qualifies to attend the Sixth Annual International Summer Tournament at The College of New Jersey in late July. Mitra has qualified for this international tournament every year since the sixth grade.

The Math League sponsors mathematics contests from grades 4-12 as a way to promote the subject in a fun and competitive atmosphere.

The written test consists of 35 multiple-choice questions and students have to answer as many as they can within 30 minutes. Correct answers earn competitors one point while unanswered questions do not award any points. The test allows the use of calculators.

Congratulations, Chancharik!
