On Thursday, April 27, 2017, Moon Area High School will present the annual Mock Crash event. This presentation will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will take place on our school campus. The junior class will be attending this event two weeks prior to the junior prom. The purpose of the event is to bring added awareness in the dangers of making irresponsible decisions when driving.
A staged accident, involving six students in two cars, will be presented in the school parking lot. Students will witness the dramatization of events that may actually occur at the site of a drinking and driving accident. In this event, one student will never make it to the prom.
In addition to the mock crash, high school students will be exposed to a representation of the Grim Reaper, the personification of death. The Reaper will be entering random classrooms and pulling pre-selected students from class. These students represent the statistic that someone dies in an alcohol-related accident every 15 minutes. The goal is to draw everyone’s attention to these life-altering consequences.
The Mock Crash is sponsored by the Moon Area High School chapter of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in cooperation with the Moon Township Police Department, Moon Township Fire Department, Crescent Township Fire Department, Moon Township Road Department, Valley Ambulance, and Life Flight.
