This year, Montour High School will host the Pittsburgh West Relay for Life, which is the staple fundraiser of the American Cancer Society, on Saturday, May 20 from noon-10 p.m.
Over 5,000 communities in 20 countries participate in the fundraiser that helps raise cancer awareness and assists in finding a cure. The relay symbolizes their mission to both celebrate and save lives in the ongoing fight against cancer. Relay teams and individuals fundraise leading up to the event, where contributions benefit cancer research, treatment accommodations, and support, among others.
The event is commenced with opening ceremonies followed by a celebratory survivor lap. Following the survivors, caregivers will walk the course and, afterwards, the relay teams begin to walk the laps. As the night approaches, the path is lit by memorial luminaries in remembrance of those who have lost the fight against cancer and to also show that you don't have to walk alone in fear.
The event brings together those affected by cancer, especially cancer survivors. With this in mind, Montour is looking to recognize local survivors during the event in May. If you, or someone you know is a cancer survivor from the area, please contact email@example.com to find out more information on how survivors can participate the day of the event.
