Eighth grade student, Jamari Reeves, won the Western Pennsylvania Spelling Bee held at Robert Morris University on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Reeves won the Moon Area Middle School (MAMS) Upper House Scripps School Spelling Bee on February 9, 2017, which qualified her to participate in the regional bee.

Reeves will continue to the 2017 Scripps National School Spelling Bee in National Harbor, MD, May 28 through June 3.

She competed in the bee against more than 100 other students in the region to claim the title.

Her winning word was “ursine,” which means bear-like.

At stake in the national bee for finalists and champions are monetary prizes, including a $40,000 cash prize for the champion.

Good luck, Jamari!
