It has been a busy couple of months for the Moon Area Middle School (MAMS) orchestra students as many were selected to participate in festival opportunities.
Students in seventh and eighth grade orchestra were selected to participate in the Strings North Orchestra Festival held at Quaker Valley Middle School on February 15, 2017. Eighth grade students Maya Baker, Julia Benson, Anthony Colangelo, Lauren Estermyer, Alyssa Lucente, Ankita Somu, AJ Thompson, Macy Vignolini, and Melanie Willig-Friedrich were chosen to participate. Joining the eighth grade students were seventh graders Hanna Enos, Marley Leach, and Sammi Siemons. These students rehearsed throughout the day with 90 other orchestra students from seven different school districts and completed their day by performing an evening concert.
Last month, four students in fifth and sixth grade orchestra were selected to participate in the inagural Pennsulvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Elementary String Festival at Quaker Valley Middle School on March 10. Sixth graders Ruby Beckwith, Greer Erhard, and Olivia Platt and fifth grader Seanna Rodriguez were selected to join the event. These students rehearsed throughout the day with 120 elementary strings students from 42 different schools and concluded with an evening concert.
This past weekend, two students in eighth grade orchestra was selected to participate in PMEA District 1 Junior High District Orchestra at Norwin High School on March 31 and April 1. Alyssa Lucente and Angelina Stern rehearsed with 140 other orchestra students in grades 7-9 from 50 different school districts before showcasing their afternoon performance.
