Moon Area School District (MASD) is the proud recipient of the 2017 Best in Communities for Music Education. This is the fourth consecutive year the district has received this prestigious designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.
“Music education in our district is a treasured outlet for students and faculty to share their art and passions with our community,” said Interim Superintendent, Dr. Donna Milanovich. “Receiving this designation for the fourth year attests to the devotion of our students and music department and continues to show the intrinsic value of preserving music in our schools.”
The NAMM Foundation recognizes dedicated communities that maintain music education as an integral part of the curriculum. MASD is one of 12 schools in Allegheny County to receive this award and one of only 70 in Pennsylvania.
“I witness music connecting to students – making them more confident not only in their music ensembles, but in academics, sports, and everyday life,” said MASD Music Department Chair, Mr. Nick Barthen. “We are not only teaching notes and rhythms, but teamwork, discipline, compromising, and listening skills.”
