The Moon Education Association (MEA) awarded McCormick Elementary Building Manager, Mr. Bill Lawrence, to receive the MEA Friend of Education Award.
The annual award is given to one person in each school district. MEA members submit nominations for those who demonstrate leadership, educational support, setting an example to exceed expectations.
The MEA nomination for Mr. Lawrence praised his role in the building saying, “He is an integral part of our Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, Safety Committee, and supports the academic curriculum by ensuring a healthy and safe learning climate for the children.”
“He has been in this position for over 10 years, and has been a caring and dedicated person since we have known him,” the nomination stated.
Mr. Lawrence is always a visible presence in the cafeteria before the school day begins as well as during both lunch periods. When he is not in the cafeteria, during the Winter months he can be found removing snow and during the summer months he can be found on the riding mower.
“Mr. Lawrence is wonderful role-model who is an active member of our McCormick School family,” said McCormick Principal, Dr. Julie Moore.
“He is child-centered, responsible, teaches children to be kind and respectful as he continues to support our school children in all areas of social, academics and interpersonal skills as he greets, talks and listens to each child as if every MCC child is a family member.”
Mr. Lawrence will be recognized at the Western Region Friend of Education Dinner with other awardees on May 17 in Pittsburgh.
“Mr. Lawrence is an active proponent of public education and a valuable member of our Moon Area community,” said Dr. Moore.
