Moon Area School District (MASD) and Cornell School District (CSD) partnered on a DiscoverEd initiative on May 18, 2018, in coordination with Remake Learning Days.
This collaboration involved Mrs. Kleijnjans’ second grade class at Brooks Elementary travelling to CSD to trade places with second graders. Each class spent time participating in STEM/STEAM activities that take place in the other district.
At Brooks, Cornell students worked with Dash & Dot to build fundamental coding skills. At Cornell, Brooks students also worked to code robots to complete simple tasks. Another rotation provided students the challenge to build specific items using common materials.
After students completed the STEM/STEAM activities, they headed to the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Hall to participate in a design challenge along with various schools from the area.
Afterwards, students returned to their respective schools and completed the day.
