Five students participated in the Moon Area High School (MAHS) Fall National Letter of Intent Signing Day in the high school gymnasium on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
Leah Baker, Ellie Hill, Abigael McEnroe, Ryan Meneskie, and Madison Sleva all formally committed to collegiate athletic teams for the fall of 2019.
In the fall of 2019, Leah Baker will be a member of The Ohio State University's Women's Swim Team. Baker will compete under coach Bill Dorenkott the Big 10 Conference for the Division I university. Baker is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and was named a 2017-2018 National Interscholastic Swim Coach Association (NISCA)/Speedo All-American Athlete for the 100 yard breaststroke. At MAHS, Baker has broken many meet, school, and personal records thus far in her high school swim career in the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and also as part of the 200 medley relay team. At the state championships this year, Baker finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and also set a new school record of 1:02.90. She is also a MAHS Scholar Athlete, member of National Honor Society, and varsity letter winner in track for the pole vault event.
Ellie Hill will play soccer for Wheeling Jesuit University as a defender on the women's soccer team. Hill will play under coach Tyler Absalom in the Mountain East for the Division II university. Hill is an honor roll student at MAHS and a captain of the girls soccer team. During her tenure on the team, she has won two state, WPIAL, and section championships. Hill will major in business and marketing with a career goal of working in marketing for a sports team.
Abigael McEnroe will take a position as center mid for Gettysburg College Women's Soccer Team. She will play in the Centennial Conference under coach Matt Garrett for the Division III team. McEnroe is a high honor roll student at MAHS, a captain of the girls soccer team, a MAHS Scholar Athlete, and member of National Honor Society. During her tenure on the team, she has won two state, WPIAL, and section championships. McEnroe plans on majoring in health sciences and biochemistry with a goal of becoming a physician's assistant.
Ryan Meneskie will become a catcher for the Penn State Behrend Men's Baseball Team. Meneskie will play in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) for the Division III school under head coach Paul Benim. Meneskie is is a varsity letter, honor roll student, MAHS Scholar Athlete, and member of the 2017-2018 WPIAL baseball 5A section II championship team. Meneskie plans on majoring in finance with a career goal to become a financial advisor.
In the fall of 2019, Madison Sleva will become the goalkeeper of the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Women's Soccer Team. Sleva will play for the Division II university under the direction of coach Gary Kagiavas. During Sleva's tenure on the team, she has won two state, WPIAL, and section championships. Sleva was named to the Beaver County Times' 22 All Star Team during her sophomore year, named All Section and All WPIAL her junior year, named honorable mention for the Big 56, and named All Section her senior year. Sleva plans on majoring in early childhood development with a goal of becoming a teacher.
