During the months of January and February, students across the state of Pennsylvania participate in various band, orchestra, and choir festivals sponsored by Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA).
Moon Area High School is proud to have two band/orchestra students and two choral students who participated and represented the District in this prestigious event.
Alyssa Lucente participated as a violinist and Alex Owczarzak played the bassoon during the 2019 All-State Festival held at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh April 3-6, 2019.
Linsey Orlovsky and Jessie Murray also performed in the All State Choir during the conference.
The PMEA is organized by a district, region and state qualifier system where students qualify for each level by a live audition and move on to the next level to represent their school district at the All-State level.
There are 12 districts festivals and 6 region festivals throughout the Commonwealth. About 15-20% of the students who begin at the district level move on to the state level.
These festivals provide additional, enriching experiences to dedicated music students. While at these festivals, which are hosted by local high schools, students rehearse eight to ten hours a day with a guest conductor. At the end of the festival, students perform a public concert with the music they have rehearsed amongst the best music students in the state.
The PMEA All-State Festivals are held in conjunction with the PMEA All-State Music Conference and the National Association for Music Education Eastern Division Conference.
Thank you to all those who represented the Moon Area Music Department during these events!
