Recap: Middle School Math 24 Club

Math 24 Club

Since February, Math 24 Club members grades 5-8 have been working hard to earn a spot at the county-wide competition at Jefferson Hills on April 30, 2018.

Math 24 is a card game where each card has four numbers. Players must use each of the numbers once and may add, subtract, multiply, or divide to reach an answer of 24.

The Challenge is a tournament in which tables of three to four students compete against each other to successfully solve the Math 24 cards. Four rounds of play are used, and players switch tables for each round.

Our Middle School competition was held April 23 and the following students represented our school at Jefferson Hills:

8th grade:  Mikayla Hribal, Subham Sahoo, Owen Vreeland, Owen Masry

7th grade:  Rachel Sacherich and Mohid Mirza

6th grade:  Lance Zabela, Brian Crawford, and Anish Raghavan

5th grade:  Krish Lal, Shivam Shrma, and Nithya Kaarthi

Three students earned awards at the Platinum Level at the Jefferson Hills competition on April 30: Subham Sahoo won second place, Mikayla Hribal won third place, and Owen Vreeland won fourth place.

Several students won at their tables during the competition:

7th grade: Rachel Sacherich

6th grade: Lance Zabela and Brian Crawford

5th grade:  Shavam Sharma and Nithya Kaarthi

In addition, 8th graders Owen Masry and Mikayla Hribal earned the honor of participating at each of the county competitions in grades 5-8.

Congratulations to all who participated in the competition and those that were part of the 24 Math Club!
