7 MAHS Students Compete at OM World Finals in Iowa


Seven Moon Area High School students recently traveled to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa to compete at the 37th annual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals Tournament from May 23 - 26, 2018.   

The tournament hosted over 850 teams from 28 countries and 38 states.  The Problem 3 Division III team of Sarah Ellis, Olivia Estright, Zach Gribben, Jenna Puhalla, Julia Puhalla, Matt Spangler and Nick Ulven competed against 54 teams from 22 states and 7 countries.  The team finished in 10th place!

Odyssey of the Mind is a problem-solving competition where students from around the world use their creativity and logic to answer a variety of long-term and spontaneous problems. 

The program aims to combine Science, technology, engineering, math, and art (STEAM) along with history to provide am exciting way for students to apply scholastic concepts. 

The seniors on the team were honored for their dedication to OM in a graduation ceremony held at the Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University.  

Congratulations to Nick Ulven (9 years), Julia Puhalla (9 years), Sarah Ellis (7 years) and Matthew Spangler (7 years).  The state of Pennsylvania and Moon Area School District were well represented in Iowa!
