Moon Area School District (MASD) welcomed the School Resource Officer (SRO) position in late 2016. Officer Angela Zane assumes this new role within the district and regularly visits each building with her main office residing in the high school.
Officer Angela Zane has been with the Moon Township Police Department since 2000 and has been a police officer since 1996. She completed her ACT 120/ Police Academy training through the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1996 and earned a degree in Criminal Justice.
Zane is also a veteran of the United States Army, where she was trained as a Criminal Investigator. She has training and experience in many law enforcement related specialties and has worked on special assignments with both the Moon Township Investigative Unit and with local drug enforcement teams. She received her certification as a School Resource Officer through N.A.S.R.O. (National Association of School Resource Officers) and has completed both the basic and advance courses.
Officer Zane is also certified as an N.A.S.R.O. School Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D.) Practitioner. She is a certified D.A.R.E. instructor and has been assigned to the district as the D.A.R.E. Officer for the past seven years.
I am very excited about this opportunity to expand my role with Moon Area School District as the School Resource Officer and am looking forward to working with the staff, students, and parents. I have routinely been asked why we need a police officer in our schools. The School Resource Officer position is about bringing together the police department, the school district, and the community as team to ensure a positive and safe learning environment. As the school resource officer, I will not only be available as a resource on law enforcement-related matters, but I will be there as a mentor, educator, and informal counselor which will help build trust between the students and law enforcement and lessen the occurrence of crime in our schools and community.
