Olympiad 2019

Hyde Elementary recently held its 3rd annual Science Olympiad for students in grades K-4.

The Hyde Science Olympiad is made possible by a $3,000 grant from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh to purchase science equipment and materials each year for the past three years.

Students spent two days competing in science challenges as well as participating in various science activities. The Planetarium also visited and students learned more about the space and the solar system.

Students were split into groups to compete in the two-day competition that covered a variety of science disciplines and had the opportunity to sharpen not only their science skills, but teamwork and sportsmanship, as well.

Some of the challenges and activities include Squishy Circuits, Microscope Challenge, Mystery Boxes, What Went by Animal Tracks, and Monster Match.

Mrs. Dushack once again dressed for the occasion as Ms. Frizzle from the science-themed TV and book series, “The Magic School Bus,” during the awards ceremony.

“It was a wonderful 2-day event exploring science and learning about animals, electricity, nature and so much more,” said Mrs. Duschack. “Hyde hopes to continue this event and thanks the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh for its financial support!”
