Students in Mrs. DeCecco's 3rd grade social studies class at Brooks Elementary are celebrating Black History Month. Every morning, two 3rd graders share a short biography about an important Black American as part of the morning announcements. Not only does this help the third grade students work on their oral reading skills, it's also a great opportunity for all Brooks Elementary students to learn more about important people who shaped history as they listen to the announcements.
The 3rd graders in Mrs. DeCecco's social studies class are also reading non-fiction texts to research different Black Americans. They are identifying important information about them, key points, and their contributions as well. Then they are then taking what they have learned and creating informational posters to honor their famous Black American.
Great job, third grade!
