SADD Sponsors Mock Crash for Juniors and Seniors

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, Moon Area High School will present the annual Mock Crash event. This presentation will begin at 1:15 p.m. and will take place on our school campus.  It will be attended by the junior & Senior classes one week prior to the Junior/Senior Prom.  The purpose of the event is to bring added awareness of the dangers of making incorrect and irresponsible decisions when driving.

A staged accident involving eight students in two cars will be presented on the school campus. Students will witness the dramatization of events that may actually occur at the site of a drinking and driving accident.  In this event, there will be a student fatality with the onlooking students seeing one of their classmates never making it to her prom.

In addition to the mock crash, high school students in their classrooms and in the cafeteria will be exposed to a representation of the Grim Reaper, the personification of death. The Grim Reaper will be entering random classrooms and cafeteria and pulling pre-selected students. These students represent the statistic that someone dies in an alcohol related accident every 15 minutes.  Our goal is to draw the attention of everyone to these life altering consequences.

The Mock Crash is sponsored by the Moon Area High School chapter of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in cooperation with the Moon Township Police Department, Moon Township Fire Department, Crescent Township Fire Department, Moon Township Road Department, Valley Ambulance, and Life Flight.
