COVID-19 Update 3/16/2020

UPDATE: On Thursday, April 9, 2020, Governor Wolf announced that Pennsylvania schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 academic year. All facilities are closed until further notice. All events are cancelled or postponed until further notice.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate COVID-19 recommendations. As we enter the March 16 -27, 2020, closure, there are several topics in which we would like to deliver clarification.

Many parents and guardians have already picked up student medication; however, those that have not will be able to do so at their buildings tomorrow, March 17, 2020, from 9-11 a.m.

Maintenance of Skills

During these next two weeks, we would like to continue the maintenance of skills for our students. Your child’s teacher will be in communication with you by Wednesday, March 18, 2020, regarding optional, suggested materials. These assignments will not be graded and are merely to continue the learning process while at home. Because this is a quickly changing situation, we may receive additional directive from the State that could alter these plans. At this time, we are only reinforcing concepts that have already been taught in the classroom.

We know that every household is different and so our Technology Department has compiled a list of options for families who may not currently have internet access at home. Click here for more information.

We will be communicating information through student Skyward accounts at the high school and middle school and through parent accounts K-4. These suggested assignments will be sent using the Skyward message center by teachers.

We urge parents to continue logging into Skyward and also to be sure their contact information is up to date so that we can ensure we are reaching all of our families. For assistance with Skyward, please visit > Skyward tab > Request for Assistance Form.

Technology Helpline

Our Technology Department will have a helpline for any students experiencing technical difficulty with Skyward, OneDrive, or any online educational programs. To reach the helpline, call 412-264-3013. The helpline will be staffed Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. during the closure. All calls received outside of this time frame will be recorded and returned in the order in which they were received.

Please know that all sporting events, SAT exams, and extracurricular activities are postponed or canceled at this time. Kindergarten registration is postponed. District buildings and Central Administration will be closed until further notice.

Building Maintenance

During the closure, we will continue to deep clean and disinfect all buildings and facilities in anticipation of students’ eventual return.

Should anything change, you will receive further communication updates. We appreciate your partnership during this unprecedented time in education.

Thank you,

Barry Balaski

Acting Superintendent

Moon Area School District
