Four Students Commit to Athletic Teams During Spring Letter of Intent Signing Day

Four students participated in the Moon Area High School (MAHS) Spring National Letter of Intent Signing Day in the high school gymnasium on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

Antonia Schaefer, Jioni Smith, Tony Tamilia, and Christian Tanner all formally committed to play sports in college in the fall of 2019.

SchaeferAntonia Schaefer

Antonia Schaefer will join the Robert Morris University women's softball team in the fall of 2019. Schaefer will play for the Colonials under the direction of head coach Jexx Varner. She is a four-year letter winner in track, a three-time WPIAL qualifier, All-Section catcher, and Honor Roll student. Schaefer plans on majoring in cyber forensics and information security. 



SmithJioni Smith 

Jioni Smith will attend La Roche University this fall and will take the position as point guard on the men's basketball team. Smith will join the Division III team under the direction of coach Hermie Carmichael in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). As a member of the Moon Area High School basketball team, he has won state, WPIAL, and section championships with the team and was named to the Second Team All-Section twice. Smith plans on majoring in physical education with a goal of becoming an athletic director. 



TamiliaTony Tamilia

Tony Tamilia will attend Washington and Jefferson College as a member of the men's baseball team. Tamilia will take the positions of outfielder, pitcher, and third baseman on the Division III team. Tamilia is a two-year letter winner and was voted Team Pitcher of the Year by his teammates last year and is also a member of the Honor Roll. Tamilia will major in business/accounting this fall. 



TannerChristian Tanner

Christian Tanner will join the Kutztown University rugby team next year as an openside flanker. Tanner will play under the direction of Dr. Gregg Jones in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Tanner was named a Pennsylvania All-Star and to the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy (EIRA). Tanner is an Honor and High Honor Roll student and plans to major in business administration and management.
