The Moon Area High School (MAHS) Transition and Social Studies Departments hosted the 2019 Reality Fair on Friday, April 26 for all juniors and seniors.
The purpose of the event is to promote career and financial literacy and sharpen financial decision-making skills, while promoting financial responsibility.
Prior to attending the fair, students first chose a career and were given a salary, credit score, and other financial details for the event during their social studies classes. With one month’s worth of income, students had to manage their money responsibly to accommodate monthly expenses such as housing, transportation, telephone, and miscellaneous bills.
Students dealt with situations of overspending, credit loans, and unexpected expenses. During the game, participants also spun the “Wheel of Life” where they are dealt a life circumstance that will affect their financial stability in some way.
To conclude the experience, students had the opportunity to meet with financial counselors to review their choices made during the game and to receive financial recommendations for the future.
