MAHS Student Holds First Place Title in CalcuSolve Competition


Moon Area High School (MAHS) students participated in the 2018 CalcuSolve competition in late October. 

The competition took place at Duquesne University and is sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU).

The purpose of the program is to challenge students’ math problem-solving skills both individually and in a group setting. Competitors complete seven problems individually and then two problems as a team.

The 9th and 10th grade competitions were held on Thursday, October 25, 2018. MAHS students Anthony Colangelo, Gabriel Gayoso, Robert Martin, Chancharik Mitra, and Adam Sacherich competed in the event.  

On Friday, October 26, 11th and 12th grade students participated in the competition including MAHS students Izzy Gayoso, Stephanie Manasterski, Chancharik Mitra, and Zach Tomasic.

Chancharik Mitra tied for first in the 9-10th grade competition and second in the 11-12th grade competition. Mitra also placed first in last year's 9-10th grade competition. 

The 11th and 12th grade MAHS team also came in third place, overall, out of over 50 teams from Allegheny County.
