The Moon Area High School (MAHS) winter color guard came in third-place at the 2019 Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA) Championships held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Norwin high School.
The MAHS winter color guard’s show was titled, “Pressure,” and they were awarded the bronze medal for placing third out of nine guards in the Regional Class A competition with a total score of 87.48. Norwin claimed first with Hempfield placing second.
Both regular season shows and the championship competition are sponsored by the TRWEA and are held at local high schools throughout the region.
2019 marks the 10th year Moon Area has fielded a winter color guard and competed in TRWEA and the eighth time the group has participated in the championship show.
The Moon Area High School Winter Color Guard is under the direction of Jen Minamyer and Nick Barthen, with instructors Ellen Martin, Sydney Diehl, and Kaylee Priddy.
The results of the shows Moon Area High School Winter Color Guard participated in this year are listed below:
- Saturday, February 9, at Norwin H.S. – Moon Area placed 2nd in class with a score of 74.320.
- Saturday, February 23, at Penn-Trafford H.S. – Moon Area placed 2nd in class with a score of 77.33
- Saturday, March 2, at Hempfield H.S. – Moon Area placed 3rd in class with a score of 76.63
- Saturday, March 23, at the Golden Triangles Show – Moon Area placed 1st in class with a score of 84.92.
