MAMS Adapted Music Classes Host Unique, Sensory-Friendly Opportunity Through MAEF Grant

Adaptive Music Class

Moon Area Middle School adapted music classes hosted Jumping Jack Theater this month for an autism-friendly and sensory-friendly music experience. The opportunity was funded through a grant that middle school music teacher, Mrs. Janice Barthen, received.

Students participated in two workshop days culminating with a performance in school on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Jumping Jack Theater, a traveling classroom experience, brought a variety of props for students to pair with their imagination to create a hands-on musical experience.

“I am so excited to have this opportunity to share with our students," said middle school music educator, Mrs. Janice Barthen. "It was a joy to see the excitement on their faces as we were able to experience the show in the comfort of our building.”

"They were able to build a relationship with the actors and then get to see those actors in action as Jumping Jack Theater presented Cityscape, Barthen said.
