On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the Moon Area School Board recognized members of the track and field team, Eagle Scouts, and the District mascot.
Mia Cochran placed 2nd in the WPIAL in the 1600 meter race and advanced to compete at the state level held at Shippensburg University May 24-25 where she paced 10th and broke a school record with a time of 5:05.58.
The boys 3200 meter relay of Lucas Reese, Aidan O’Donnel, Tyler Anderson, Alex Estright, and Justin Kocur placed 3rd at the WPIAL championships held on May 16 at Slippery Rock University and also qualified for the state championship. Unfortunately, they did not medal at the state level.
The athletes were trained under the direction of head track and field coach, Frank Todd, and distance coach, Wes Bell.
Four Moon Area School District students achieved the highest award in Boy Scouting – the Eagle Scout Award.
Thomas Rash is a sophomore at Moon Area High School and a member of Troop 198 in Moon Township under the direction of scoutmaster, Brian Mann.
Thomas’ project focused on the “fleur de lune” entranceway at Robin Hill Park. He replaced invasive trees with mountain laurels and improved the landscaping, including new mulch, cleaning fallen leaves, and two new flower boxes.
Mitchell McCoy, Ethan Radeschi, and Marc Pelkington are members of Troop 310 in Moon township under the direction of scoutmaster, Brian Tedeschi.
Mitchell repainted the tiger paw prints encircling McCormick Elementary School, as well as scraped, sanded, and painted garden bed planters at the school. He also supplied and built one large picnic table and benches for school use.
Ethan Radeschi’s project benefitted the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens and consisted of making apiary benches, three bee hives and large bookshelves shaped like a honeycomb to be used during learning sessions.
Marc’ replaced stairs leading from the Baker Field baseball diamond to adjacent concession stands, including the removal of the old steps and installing new ones. He also painted Baker Field bleachers.
Thank you to our Eagle Scouts who are continually working to improve our community and our schools.
The Board also had another special recognition as they highlighted the morale efforts of senior Michaela Wollmann, who has served as the District mascot for the past four years.
Michaela has gone above and beyond to attend athletic events, school events, and even community events. She has truly shown her Tiger Pride throughout her time at Moon Area High School and we commend her efforts to bring out school spirit within the District!
