Senior Citizen Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
Property tax help is available for Pennsylvania senior citizens age 65 and older, widows or widowers age 50 and older and permanently disabled persons age 18 and older as they live on fixed incomes but are faced with rising property taxes. The state Taxpayer Relief Act is helping seniors and disabled residents remain in their homes and make ends meet through property tax relief. The income eligibility level for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been raised from $15,000 a year to $35,000 a year, excluding half of Social Security income, and the maximum rebate was increased from $500 to $650 for homeowners. Moon Area School District: Act 1 Referendum Exception Notice
Pursuant to Act 1, the Pennsylvania Department of Education publishes an index % applicable to the Moon Area School District. The District real estate tax increase for the next fiscal year is limited to the index % unless the proposed tax rate is approved by voters pursuant to a referendum or the District qualifies for an Act 1 exception. As a result of special circumstances covered by an Act 1 referendum exception, a tax rate % increase above the index might be required to balance the Moon Area School District budget for the next fiscal year. The tax to be levied is required to provide a quality education program as reflected in the Moon Area School District’s 2018-19 Preliminary Budget.
The Moon Area School District intends to seek approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education as required by Act 1 for an exception allowing increase of the real estate tax as reflected in the District’s Preliminary Budget. The Preliminary Budget is available for public inspection at the District offices, 8353 University Blvd, Moon Township, PA and on the District’s website: www.moonarea.net. On written request by any District resident or taxpayer, the Moon Area School District will provide a copy of the referendum exception application.
