COVID-19 Closure Update 4/22/2020

Dear Parents and Guardians, 

 

I hope all our families are safe and healthy during the school closure. In an effort to keep you continually informed, I wanted to address a few frequently asked questions our District has received from students and parents.

With the sudden and swift nature of the stay-at-home orders to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we know that many students may have left instruments, books, binders, and other belongings in their lockers. Although we initially devised a plan a few weeks ago for students to retrieve these personal items, new mandates regarding extended stay-at-home orders and personal protective equipment are causing us to restructure our retrieval plans.

District administrators continue to work on the details of these procedures so that the transfer of items from the building to families can occur safely and within the social distancing guidelines Governor Wolf has set in place. Currently, we anticipate pick-up to begin after Monday, May 11, 2020, or once the mandated stay-at-home order expires.

All new student registration is ongoing. Kindergarten transition events and Kindergarten Readiness Round-Up have been cancelled and cannot be rescheduled. Parents and families are asked to register their student online at www.moonarea.net > Departments > Registration. Parents and guardians experiencing difficulty registering are asked to contact the District registrar.

Contingency plans have been established for the end of the school year at all levels, including graduation. Each week, we are learning new information that helps us determine what may be the safest decision for our community. We will continue to act out of an abundance of caution as we move forward knowing these plans may change. I am mindful of the need for our families to adequately prepare and will make every attempt to release further information in a timely manner.  

Many events such as prom, National Honor Society inductions, concerts, field trips, field days, and academic honors nights have been cancelled. Some of these events have been rescheduled to occur remotely; however, some events are unable to be rescheduled due to social distancing guidelines.

I appreciate the patience of our staff, families, and community members as we all navigate these unparalleled times. Our Moon Area family is working together in selfless and compassionate ways, which speaks to the resiliency of our community. We miss our students and look forward to the days when we can all be in our classrooms again.
