MAHS Students Compete in State Mock Trial Finals

MAHS Students Compete in State Mock Trial Finals

The MAHS Mock Trail Team and their advisors culminated a season of trials and tribulations as one of 14 schools to advance to compete in the State Championships, March 27-28 in Harrisburg at the Dauphin County Courthouse.  271 teams and more than 2000 students from schools across Pennsylvania participated in local and regional mock trial competitions, and this marks the first time that Moon Area has advanced to States.

The team began working on this year's fictional case in November by reading through the case materials (stipulations, witness statements, and exhibits) to understand the facts, create a timeline, and identify key issues.  As they developed their theory and theme, students analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of the witnesses to create direct/cross examinations as well as opening statements and closing arguments.

The team presented their defense and plaintiff cases at the Allegheny City County Building from late January to early March. They finished their regional run with a record of 5-0, defeating OLSH, Fox Chapel, South Park, Upper Saint Clair and Allderdice along the way and earning a spot to represent Allegheny County as one of 14 State Finalists.

At States, the team won their first trial against Spring Grove High School but fell to Lincoln Park in their second trial.

Congratulations to all participants on an impressive season and for making school history!
