MAHS Winter Color Guard Earns Bronze Medal at 2026 TRWEA Championships

On Saturday, March 28, the Moon Area High School Winter Color Guard traveled to Kiski Area High School to compete in the Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA) 2026 Championships, closing out a strong and expressive competitive season.

Hosted at Kiski Area High School, the championship event brought together top-performing ensembles from across the region. Moon Area’s 2026 production, titled “Beneath Our Skyline,” captivated audiences and judges alike with its artistry, precision, and emotional depth.

Competing in the National Scholastic A Classification, the Moon Area Winter Guard delivered an impressive performance that earned them a third-place finish with a score of 87.94 out of 100. The achievement reflects months of dedication, teamwork, and growth throughout the winter season.

The TRWEA circuit sponsors both the regular season competitions and the championship event, with shows hosted at local high schools across the region. These events provide student performers with opportunities to showcase their talents while engaging in a vibrant and supportive performing arts community.

This year’s championship appearance also marks a milestone for Moon Area, as the program celebrates its sixteenth year fielding a winter color guard and competing within TRWEA. Over the years, the program has built a strong tradition of excellence, creativity, and commitment—qualities that were clearly evident in this season’s final performance.

  • Saturday, January 31, at Deer Lakes H.S. – 63.26/100
  • Saturday, February 14, at Baldwin H.S. – 70.75/100
  • Saturday, March 7, at Hempfield H.S.- 80.74/100
  • Saturday, March 21, at Penn Trafford H.S. – 84.58/100
  • Saturday, March 28, TRWEA Championships at Kiski Area HS – with a score of 87.94/100

With another successful season in the books, the Moon Area High School Winter Color Guard continues to demonstrate the power of performance, storytelling, and school pride—both beneath their skyline and beyond.

The Moon Area High School Winter Color Guard is under the direction of Jen Barthen and Nick Barthen and assisted by Sydney Goode. Instructors include Stephen Hall and Kyle Albright. MAHS Guard would like to thank the numerous band parents, fans, administrators, teachers, school board members, and especially, the community members for their support on this successful Winter Indoor season.
