Students Crunch Numbers and Explore Careers at Accounting Career Day

Moon Area High School students recently participated in Accounting Career Day, hosted by Herbein Accounting Firm on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Duquesne University.

Students enrolled in Accounting 1 and College in High School Accounting had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on financial statement analysis competition alongside approximately 200 students from 11 schools across the region.

The event served as a valuable extension of the classroom curriculum, offering insights into the accounting profession through a panel of experienced professionals representing various specialties. The panel included:

  • Angie Buccilli, CPA, MAcc, Advisory Consultant, Deloitte
  • Maria Grande, CPA, Audit Manager, KPMG
  • Chris Plasterr, MAcc, Director of Internal Audit, PwC
  • Dave Stonesifer, CPA, CEO, Herbein

In addition to the panel, students joined smaller breakout sessions featuring presentations and interactive Q&A periods. Presenters included professionals such as Josh Pollet and Brittany Nimal from Herbein, Rachel Jeswald and Michael Cramer from PNC, and current Duquesne University accounting students.

This enriching experience gave students an in-depth look at the accounting field while fostering connections with industry experts and peers.
