MAMS Girls' Chamber Choir
The Moon Area Middle School Girls’ Chamber Choir is an auditioned ensemble of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade girls who rehearse after school once a week. This talented group includes students involved in band, chorus, and orchestra, with auditions held each fall. This year, the choir features 21 members and is directed by Janice Barthen.
During the winter season, the choir performed at several events, showcasing their talent and spreading holiday cheer. Their performances included the Montour Heights Country Club Members’ Annual Christmas Party, caroling in Moon Township neighborhoods, the middle school and high school Winter Choral Concerts, and appearances at the Omni William Penn and the City County Building in downtown Pittsburgh.
On Saturday, December 7th, the Chamber Choir once again performed at the Montour Heights Country. The students sang a cappella Christmas carols as members arrived for their annual holiday party, adding a festive and elegant touch to the evening.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, the choir visited the Autumn Woods and Foxwood neighborhoods for an evening of caroling. That evening they collected $314 in donations for the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund. This marked the 10th year of the choir’s caroling tradition. Afterwards, the singers returned to school to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate together.
On Monday, December 16th, the choir performed at two downtown Pittsburgh locations: the Omni William Penn Hotel and the City County Building. This was their first time performing at the Omni William Penn and their third appearance at the City County Building. The City County Building performance was live-streamed and can still be viewed online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BTzIT0uDxI. After the performances, the students were treated to candy bars donated by Sarris and visited the Pittsburgh Creche, the only authorized replica of the nativity scene in St. Peter’s Basilica, adding a meaningful conclusion to their day.
