MAMS Honors Veterans

MAMS Honors Veterans

Moon Area Middle School students and staff are honoring our veterans throughout the month of November.

The month kicked off with a leftover Halloween candy donation drive, organized by Ms. Autumn Cairns. The donated candy will be sent to the troops.

Prior to Veterans Day, Ms. Jane Joyce also organized a poster contest for students to show their appreciation for our veterans and our country. The winners were announced during the Veterans Day Assembly.

In addition, Ms. Cairns and Ms. Joyce are running a service project. Students are donating toiletries and snacks to stuff stockings for soldiers. Items will be collected through Friday, November 17.

Moon Area Middle School also honored our veterans with an assembly on Friday, November 10.

The assembly began with the Pledge of Allegiance and then the band performed the National Anthem. The chorus also performed a medley of songs from each of the branches of the military.

The assembly included two special guest speakers. Moon alum, Dennis McMahon, who is a retired honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Sgt. Mariah Joyce, a reservist who served in Afghanistan both spoke to students about their experiences serving our country.

Next, was a presentation of the poster contest winners. One winner was selected from each grade level.

Finally, the Middle School held a moment of silence to honor those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and Taps was performed by Mr. Minamyer.

Thank you to everyone who supported our service men and women by participating in these events. And, a very heartfelt thank you to all those who have served our country.
