MAMS Students Donation Candy to Service Men and Women

MAMS Students Donation Candy to Service Men and Women

For the past five years, the 5th and 6th grade students at Moon Area Middle School have been donating their unwanted Halloween candy to the troops. The timeline aligns well with Veterans Day, so the donation is one way the students can honor and show their appreciation for all who are serving our country.

This year’s drive far surpassed all others as over 300 pounds of candy was collected!

The 6th grade club, Support Our Troops, which is led by 6th grade teachers Mrs. Cairns and Mrs. Tidd, have been busy sorting and bagging over 50 boxes of candy that will be given to two local organizations who will then send care packages to community service men and women who have been deployed this holiday season.

To motivate students to participate, each Advisor Base competed to donate the most candy.  Mr. Baumgartner’s 5th grade Advisor Base and Mr. Smiley’s 6th grade Advisor Base led the way with the most donations, earning them a yellow wristband and a donut party.

The teachers and club members would like to thank everyone in our school and from the MASD school community for donating candy this year as our drive was a huge success.
