An Important Follow-Up Message from MASD
Dear MASD Families,
We understand that many of you have additional questions or concerns following the message we shared yesterday regarding the student who was found in possession of a weapon. While we are unable to provide every detail due to the ongoing investigation involving a minor, we want to keep you informed with the information we are able to share at this time.
First, we want to reassure you that at no time did the student make any threats toward MASD students or staff. To clarify some questions we've received, the weapon brought to school was a handgun. Our school district maintains a strict no-weapons policy, and we are addressing this situation with the utmost seriousness.
We can also confirm that both the student and their parents are fully cooperating with authorities, and the Moon Area Police Department has filed the appropriate charges with the juvenile courts.
Please be aware that the student involved is not in school and will not be returning for the foreseeable future. We will continue to follow our established discipline process in accordance with our student code of conduct.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We encourage you to talk to your children about the importance of reporting any concerns to an adult, and ensuring they understand our policies and expectations.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time.
Sincerely,
Barry J. Balaski
Superintendent
Moon Area School District
