Important Update Regarding the Use of AI at MASD

Dear Moon Area Families,

We want to take a moment to address an important issue regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by students. While AI can be a powerful educational resource, it also carries risks if used inappropriately. Specifically, creating or sharing AI-generated photos or videos that misrepresent individuals or events, or that disrupt our school environment, can cause serious harm.

Moon Area School District’s Policy 218.5: Student Misbehavior explicitly states that making a false statement or representation, or causing disruption to the good order and discipline of the school, may lead to severe consequences.

Please know that:

• Any student found using AI to create misleading or harmful photos or videos will face disciplinary action.
• Any disruptive use of AI, in any form, will also be handled in accordance with district policy.
• Our expectation is that students use technology responsibly and respectfully, both inside and outside of school.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing with your child the importance of honesty, integrity, and respect for others when using technology. Together, we can ensure that AI is used as a tool for learning and creativity—not disruption.
