MASD Winter Weather 2024-25

MASD Winter Weather 2024-25

Dear MASD Families:

It may still be relatively warm outside, but the possibility of winter weather is right around the corner. As we prepare for the possibility of weather-related delays and closings, we want to make sure families are as prepared as possible.

If we need to physically close our schools due to weather, we will have a traditional snow day (no school/ no virtual instruction). The day will be made up according to the district calendar.

Our goal is to maximize in person instruction for our students. However, if we have a particularly bad winter and we must close our schools multiple times, we will consider implementing state approved flexible instruction days (FIDS).  Please be aware that the state limits the number of FIDS that a district can use in any given year.

If we call a delay, all MASD schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule.

  • School delay and closing information will be shared in the following ways:
  • An alert will be posted to our website.
  • A call and email will be sent via Skylert.
  • Social media posts will be made.
  • Information will be posted to the local news stations (WPXI, WTAE, KDKA).

Please use our website (www.moonarea.net) as your official source for information.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Barry J. Balaski
Superintendent
Moon Area School District
