Moon Area HS and MS Students Compete in the Academic Games National Tournament

Moon Area High School and Middle School students began preparing for the Academic Games National Tournament in September, dedicating time to learning and practicing a variety of math, ELA, and social studies games, that included Presidents, Propaganda, Current Events, Theme, OnSets, Equations, and Linguishtiks. They competed locally against teams from Allegheny Valley, Hancock County, Lincoln Park, Mt. Lebanon, Montour, Riverview, Seneca Valley, and South Park to qualify for a spot at the National Tournament, held in Charlotte, NC from April 24–27.

Several students returned from Charlotte with “Thinkers” in hand. The Thinker is the trophy awarded at the tournament in recognition of outstanding achievement.

Freshman Luke Harn earned a gold Thinker for his knowledge of this year’s theme, Norse Mythology. Sophomore Jaipartap Singh received a silver Thinker for his performance in OnSets, while freshman Abby Blyzwick earned a bronze Thinker for her quick analysis in Propaganda. Freshman Anay Lodha earned a blue Thinker by finishing 9th in Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes honors the top 10 individuals in each division based on the highest combined scores across at least four different games.

Academic Games National Tournament participants include Modak Muvvala, Viveshan Vaseeharan, Anay Lodha, Landin Luster, Jacob Armstrong, Pratyush Dhar, Jairoop Kaur, Samruddhi Mandani, Navya Lodha, Maeve Schneider, Athaliah Ettiene, Samantha Foltz, Jaipartap Singh, Luke Harn, Abby Blyzwick and Marie Faherty.
