The Moon Area High School (MAHS) Women in STEM Club hosted a STEM Fair for 2nd grade students Bon Meade Elementary on March 7, 2019, which also happened to be "Crazy Hair Day."
The Girls in STEM Club partnered with Chevron’s Women’s Network to bring a variety of stations to the elementary school.
The fair introduced concepts such as chemistry, physics, energy conservation, astronomy, engineering, reptile education, electricity and biology. Chevron representatives also hosted a demonstration focusing on reservoir engineering.
Volunteers from both the Women in STEM Club and Chevron held an abbreviated extension of the fair later that evening for the Bon Meade community at their Literacy Night. Parents and students K-4 enjoyed many of the exhibits that evening.
"Chevron’s Women’s Network was honored to partner with the Women STEM Club to showcase the importance of exposing children at an early age to STEM fields," said Chevron Drilling and Completions Superintendent, Amanda Fichtel. "We hope to influence young minds about the endless possibilities of STEM careers!"
The collaboration of the Women in STEM and Chevron’s Women’s Network comes at an appropriate time as March 8 marks International Women’s Day.
