Brooks Students Use Educational App to Individualize Learning Experiences

Students in Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Baker's 3rd grade classes, as well as, Mrs. Bracken's 4th graders are using Freckle, a research-based application program during ELA class.

Freckle is a resource for teachers to use to differentiate instruction to help meet all learning needs. Students begin by taking a benchmark assessment to determine their learning level, which allows instructors to create assignments for students based on their individual needs.

After the assessment is complete, students can work at their own pace through comprehension skills in both fiction and nonfiction. Some of these concepts include main idea, theme, and analyzing text structure. Other areas of focus include improving grammar skills and vocabulary development.

The 3rd and 4th graders use the program in both small groups and whole group lessons. The interactive program helps to motivate students by earning virtual coins to spend designing their avatar at the 'Piggy Store.'
