US Steel Performance

The 7th and 8th Grade Girls’ Chamber Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Janice Barthen, had a very busy holiday season full of performances!

The Girls’ Chamber Choir consists of seventh and eighth grade girls who have auditioned in the fall for the group and rehearse after school once a week. The 2019-2020 Chamber Choir includes 24 girls, some of whom are also members of the band, chorus, and orchestra.

This winter season, the girls performed both locally and in the heart of Pittsburgh. The girls started their seasonal performances with an invitation to sing for the second time at Barnes & Noble in Robinson during a middle school fundraiser on December 4, 2019. The girls sang a selection of holiday tunes for patrons of the store.

Next, on December 7, the ensemble sang a capella for the fourth time at the Montour Heights Country Club as members arrived for their annual holiday party.

Just two days later, the group went caroling for the seventh consecutive year through Moon Township neighborhoods as part of a fundraiser for Children's Hospital. Students broke into three choral groups and visited three different neighborhoods to spread holiday cheer. In about an hour and a half, the girls collected $387 in donations to benefit the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund, which provides financial support to patients.

On December 16, the girls made their rounds to perform at three different locations throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area. The Girls' Chamber Choir performed on the second floor of the US Steel Building. Following the performance, the ensemble stopped to see a Pittsburgh holiday attraction - the only authorized replica of the nativity scene at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

The second performance of the day was at the Ross Park Mall, where the group sang for shoppers and spectators. Last, the choir went to Cranberry Place, a nursing and rehabilitation center, where the girls performed holiday music for patients.

What a busy season the 7th and 8th grade girls chamber choir had! Congratulations on all of your achievements!
