Procedures for MASD Cafeterias

Computerized Debit System

Every student is assigned a PIN, which is their student ID number. Students must enter their PIN regardless whether they have cash or are using their cafeteria account. Please help your child learn their student ID number. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Any amount of money may be sent in for your child's cafeteria account by cash or check made payable to MASD Food Service. Money may also be deposited into your child’s account by signing up for an account at www.schoolcafe.com.

Students may pay cash each day for purchases. Maintaining a positive balance is encouraged. “Extras” such as snacks and bottled water are only able to be purchased when your cafeteria account is funded.

Account Restrictions

A notation can be placed on your child’s account if you wish to restrict your child’s access to certain items such as snacks or bottled water. Students are permitted to purchase extras with a positive account balance unless we receive a note or call from the parent indicating otherwise. To restrict purchases, please email the food service office: cleininger@moonarea.net.

Account Balances & Statements

Parents may sign up for an account at www.schoolcafe.com to view balances, setup low balance alerts and make online payments. There is no fee unless you make an online payment.

Balances from the previous school year will be available for use on the first day of school. Please remember that any negative balances or money remaining at the end of the school year will transfer to the next school year.

Free & Reduced Meal Program

To apply for the free and reduced meal benefit program, an online application must be submitted each school year. Benefits will expire 30 days from the first day of school.  To apply, please visit www.schoolcafe.com. Paper applications are available upon request.

Prior to approval, parents are responsible for the payment of all meals until the application is processed.

Students who are eligible for free meals do not need to make deposits. However, they are welcome to deposit money for “extras” they might like to purchase. The system is coded to recognize that your child is free or reduced when they enter their PIN. Therefore, a child's status remains completely confidential.
